asus eee pad transformer netflix

The Netflix app is already available for a number of Android smartphones and tablets, but there are a few notable exceptions. For example, one of the platform’s most popular tablets — the Asus Eee Pad Transformer — had yet to receive an invite to the streaming video party. That’s all changed now, however, as Android Central reports that the 8.6.5.9 update is rolling out, bringing Netflix support along for the ride.

It was already known that Netflix was on the way to the Transformer, what with Asus itself listing the app on the tablet’s official specifications page. The Transformer can now keep up with other Android 3.2 Honeycomb tablets like the Lenovo Ideapad K1 and ThinkPad, both of which launched last week with Netflix as part of their out-of-the-box experience.

Support for one of Android’s most popular streaming video apps makes the Transformer that much more attractive. At around $385, the Transformer sports hardware that’s very similar to what you’ll find in $499 Honeycomb tablets — like a 1GHz dual-core Nvidia Tegra 2 processor, 1GB RAM, 10.1″ 1280×800 pixel display, 1.2MP front and 5MP rear cameras, 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.1, and a 24.4Wh battery.
