Recently Acer promised that it would push out a software update for the Iconia Tab A500 tablet on August 25th bringing Google Android 3.2 to the tablet. If you’re keeping track though, you may have noticed that yesterday was the 25th… and the software update isn’t available yet.

Acer Iconia Tab A500

Now Acer has updated the launch date for Android 3.2 to September 10th. The company posted the date on the Acer Malaysia Facebook page.

The good news is that there’s a reason for the delay: the company is working to resolve some issues with GPS settings, so hopefully Android 3.2 will be fully functional on the tablet by the time it launches.

Android 3.2 isn’t a huge update from Android 3.1. The key difference is that the new operating system does a better job of displaying apps that were designed for smartphones on a tablet display. It does this by essentially emulating a lower resolution display on an high resolution screen so that even if an app was coded for a 800 x 480 pixel or smaller display it will fill the full screen on a tablet with a 1280 x 800 pixel display.

Most of the other changes are under the hood.

thanks Johan!
