The Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 is the thinnest, lightest 10 inch Android tablet available. It’s also about to become one of the first models available with a built-in 4G LTE module from Verizon Wireless. The company will begin selling a 4G model on Thursday, July 28th.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1

Verizon’s 4G network supports mobile broadband download speeds between 5Mbps and 12Mbps and upload speeds from 2 to 5 Mbps. The company will offer data plans starting at $30 per month for 2GB of data transfers. For $50 per month you get 5GB, or you can get a 10GB plan for $80.

When you sign up for a 2-year contract you can snag a 4G Galaxy Tab 10.1 with prices starting at $529.99 for a 16GB model. The 32GB version will run $629.99. Both models are already available for pre-order.

Honestly, I think you’re probably better off just grabbing a WiFi-only model for a one-time fee of $499.99 though — unless you really need the always-connected 4G access. Even if you sign up for the cheapest plan you’ll end up paying $1250 over the course of a 2-year contract if you opt for the 4G version. If it helps though, Verizon will be offering a $25 credit new customers can use to download media from the Samsung Media Hub.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 features a 10.1 inch, 1280 x 800 pixel display, a 1 GHz NVIDIA Tegra 2 dual core processor, and Android 3.1 operating system. It has a 3MP rear camera and a 2MP front-facing camera. The tablet supports 802.11b/g/n WiFi. It measures just a third of an inch thick and weighs about 1.25 pounds.

While Samsung’s tablet doesn’t have a full-sized USB port, a removable battery, or some of the other features you’ll find on some other tablets such as the Toshiba Thrive, it’s one of the best looking tablets on the market today, and the thin and light design also makes it easy to hold and easy to pack in a bag and carry with you.
