Samsung Galaxy Tab

The Samsung Galaxy Tab is a 7 inch tablet with a 1024 x 600 pixel display, a 1 GHz Samsung Hummingbird processor, and 16GB of storage. While many Androd tablets hitting the streets this year ship with Google Android 3.x Honeycomb which has been optimized for large displays and fast processors, the original Galaxy Tab was released last year with a slightly modified version of Google Android 2.2 Froyo — an operating system designed for smartphones.

Now Sprint is starting to push a software update to users that brings Android 2.3 Gingerbread to the tablet. The Samsung Galaxy Tab is available from most major US wireless carriers, but Sprint is the first to offer the update. There’s no word on when customers with WiFi-only versions of the tablet might get the new software.

Android 2.3 Gingerbread features better power management, improved text selection, and a few other tweaks. The software update will also add support for HID Bluetooth. You can find instructions for downloading and installing the update at the bottom of Sprint’s support page for the Galaxy Tab. The process should take about 5 minutes.
