As Android tablets continue to hit the streets, I could probably start a full time blog doing nothing but covering tablet hacks. Every day someone has figured out how to root a new device, create a custom ROM, or overclock a processor. Here are three of the latest. (And no, I don’t plan to cover every single hack, but these three are each interesting in one way or another.
- Vizio Tablet rooted before it even hits the streets
Some tablets are tough to gain root access to. It can take weeks or months before someone find a way to work an exploit that will open the device up to support uninstalled apps. The Vizio 8 inch tablet isn’t one of them. It’s not even availabel yet, but someone has managed to get their hands on a pre-release version and use the GingerBreak utility to root the tablet. - Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 overclocked to 1.4 GHz
The Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 has only been widely available for about a week — but it’s using the same 1 GHz NVIDIA Tegra 2 dual core processor as the Motorola XOOM and a handful of other tablets which have been on the streets for weeks. So it’s no surprise that like the XOOM, the Tab 10.1 is overclockable. It looks like you can root the tablet and install a custom kernel to crank the CPU up to 1.4 GHz. - First custom ROM for the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1
So you’re not content with simply overclocking the Tab 10.1? No problem. Now you can also install a custom ROM. It’s pretty basic at this point, just offering a stock ROM which has been deodexed. But this is the first step toward building custom software for the tablet — and should give hope to anyone who wants to continue running Android without TouchWiz even after Samsung issues an over-the-air software updated adding TouchWiz to the tablet in the coming months.
root for VIZIO does not work
The root for the Vizio tablet doesn’t work. Thanks for blowing a good thing even before it hits the store. Try shooting your brain instead of your mouth.
I agree i just tried it and dosnt work at all…
