Just over a month after announcing plans to acquire wireless chip-maker Icera, NVIDIA has completed the deal. Icera is one of those companies you’ve probably never heard of, but which is a major player in the mobile space, providing technology for 3G and 4G wireless modems.

NVIDIA was once known primarily as a graphics card maker, and that’s still a big part of the company’s business. But over the past few years NVIDIA has been transforming itself into a complete chip maker. The company’s Tegra line of chips are proving very popular with Android tablet and smartphone makers. Virtually every Android 3.x Honeycomb tablet that’s available at the moment has a Tegra 2 processor.

The Icera web site already redirects to NVIDIA.com, where you can find information about the company’s wireless technology.
