Netflix plugin

It figures. Yesterday I boxed up my Samsung Series 5 Chromebook review unit and shipped it back. Today I discover that there’s a new plugin that adds support for Netflix Watch Instantly movies and TV shows.

That means I can’t test the plugin at the moment, but users are reporting that the plugin is available on the development channel for the Series 5 — but even with the plugin installed, you can’t yet watch Netflix videos. It’s likely that Netflix will have to make some further changes before video streaming is possible on a Chromebook. That’s because Netflix currently streams videos using Microsoft’s Silverlight platform, and Chrome OS doesn’t support Silverlight.

The plug-in isn’t yet available for the the Google Cr-48 Chrome OS laptop.

  1. as of the past few days’ CR-48 Dev update, we now have the non-functional netflix plugin.. but like the S5… it no work >.<

  2. Just hoping this means they’re that much closer to ditching Silverlight and going HTML5 and Chrome/Chromium will also get the plug in.
