MSI unveiled two new budget tablets this week, the MSI WindPad Enjoy 7 and the WindPad Enjoy 10. While I had a pretty good sense that these would be low end tablet when I saw the specs, I wasn’t sure just how cheap they would be. But now PC World is reporting that the 7 inch model could sell for $199 while the 10 inch tablet will cost $299.
Both tablets run Google Android 2.3 Gingerbread and feature 1.2 GHz ARM Cortex-A8 processors. MSI expects the tablets to provide between 4 and 6 hours of run time while playing video.
The WindPad Enjoy 10 has a 10 inch, 1024 x 768 pixel display and weighs 1.75 pounds. The WindPad Enjoy 7 features a 7 inch, 800 x 480 pixel display and weighs just 0.87 pounds.
The biggest question remaining is whether these tablets will ever see the light of day. MSI has been showing off tablets for a good 18 months, but few have actually made it to market.
Unless they changed how they measure battery time 4-6 hours usually turns out to be 2-4 hours… that seems low and would make a tablet nearly useless to me.
The specs seen so far seem somewhat less then complete.
edit: interesting, the pcworld article claims bluetooth. Gimme!
What’s happened to MSI? Their original Wind netbook was a huge winner. Since then, Pfffft! Now they’re planning to go up against the Archos Arnova line of crap tablets?
Mostly a winner because everyone and their dog used the model as basis for a rebrand. Sadly the linux version used a badly messed up suse install, and was used as a basis for tech media to argue that linux was not the thing to use…
