Intel Atom logoTablets with Intel’s new low power 1.5 GHz Atom Z670 Oak Trail chip are just starting to hit the streets. But Intel is already working on its next-generation tablet chip. Fudzilla reports the new processor will be called the Atom Z2700 and it will likely have a 32nm core and be based on the company’s upcoming Cloverview platform.

According to Fudzilla’s sources, the new chip will be cheaper than the Atom Z670 chip, but it will still be a low power alternative to the Atom processors found in desktop and laptop computers. The Z2700 is scheduled to launch toward the end of this year or early next year, which means that Intel will likely continue pushing its Oak Trail platform for the next half year or so.
