HP has announced the official pricing and launch date for the TouchPad tablet. It will be available in the US starting on July 1st. The UK, Ireland, France, Germany, and Canada should all see the tablet by the end of the month with more countries on tap for later this year. The HP TouchPad will be available for pre-order in North America and Europe starting June 19th.

The tablet will come in two flavors at launch. A 16GB model will cost $499 while HP will offer a 32GB model for $599. Later this year HP will offer a model with support for AT&T’s mobile broadband network. There’s no word on whether we’re talking about a 3G or 4G model, but the official spec sheet mentions a 3G model with A-GPS technology.

The HP TouchPad will be the first tablet to run webOS 3.0, a new version of the webOS mobile operating system optimized for tablets. It features a 9.7 inch, 1024 x 768 pixel capacitive touchscreen display. The tablet has a 1.3MP front-facing camera, 802.11b/g/n WiFi, Bluetooth 2., and a 6300mAh battery.

The tablet market is already a pretty crowded place, with the Apple iPad 2, BlackBerry PlayBook, and dozens of Android tablets already on the streets. It should be interesting to see whether HP can make any more of a splash with its first webOS tablet than Palm has been able to do with its webOS smartphones.

Update: It looks like the tablet will carry a higher price tag in Europe, but that’s pretty typical for consumer electronics devices. In Germany the 16GB model will go for 479 Euros while the 32GB model will run 579 Euros. That’s the equivalent of $700 US and $840 US, respectively.

  1. No, a tablet is a secondary computing device, I will get interested when a properly “specced up“ tablet appears in the $250 to $300 price range otherwise forget it! Watch the ARCHOS space to see what they have to offer on the 23 of june.

    1. Archos does make pretty affordable tablets that are a good deal for the price, but they do so by not using the higher end components. While also not providing premium features like built in 3G, etc.

So they are great for the price, in many ways giving more bang for the buck, but don’t expect everything the higher priced units provide with them.
