A few days ago we reported that Target was offering a coupon for $40 off the price of an Asus Eee Pad Transformer, bringing the cost down to $360 (plus tax and shipping). But now a number folks who took advantage of the deal are reporting that Target has cancelled their orders. The retailer is sending an email to customers saying that orders are being cancelled because none of Target’s suppliers has the tablet available. But some users have noted that after contacting Target they’ve discovered that the orders are still good, while others have been able to reinstate their orders.
The Asus Eee Pad Transformer is a tablet with a 10.1 inch, 1280 x 800 pixel display, a 1 GHz NVIDIA Tegra 2 dual core processor, and Google Android Honeycomb operating system. Its claim to fame though, is the optional keyboard docking station which allows you to extend your tablet’s battery life while typing away just as you would with a laptop computer.
This is not unusual for the stars of Dayton Hudson Corp. Target, in spite of its faux upscale image, is just another discount retailer. They got caught with their pants down on this one and didn’t anticipate the demand, or the part about losing money on every unit by taking 10% off the MSRP. Fortunately, this is a very competitive market and Target is just one of many, many outlets.
When it’s too good to be true, it’s Target!

Yeah I called and they stated to me that they could not re-instate the item. Its always funny to me, how one company can just have no rhyme or reason or standard for their issues. Its a retail store and items end up out of stock all the time, how can they not have a set standard of how to react to that?
my order was canceled and “Franco” told me Target is no longer selling this item. it’s complete horse flop since they will most likely be fulfilling orders from Amazon and are just trying to get out of the $40 coupon.
I also received that email. I called today and was assured that the order is still good and that Target is experiencing a problem with their ordering system. They apologized for the error and even offered me express shipping at no charge for the inconvenience.
Oops! Bad Target.com. Today my order disappeared; after being reassured it was ok. The person I spoke with today was not helpful – only reciting cancellation policies and time zone differences on the account activity. First time target.com order – last time. Very disappointing.
