HP is expected to launch the HP TouchPad next month. It will be the first tablet to ship with the webOS 3.0 operating system, so it’s no surprise that the company is trying to attract developers to write third party applications for the platform. What is a bit of a surprise is that apparently HP has already started sending TouchPads to developers.
Mark Gurman is an iOS app developer, and he posted a message on Twitter last night claiming that HP is already giving TouchPad tablets to developers in advance of the official launch. It’s not clear if this means Gurman actually has one, or if he’s just seen evidence of other developers getting pre-release tablets. My money’s actually on the latter explanation, since HP would probably require developers to sign some sort of non-disclosure agreement before giving them tablets.
Anyway, I suppose it’s good to know that the tablets are at least far enough along in development to start sending out test units. Hopefully this means HP will be able to release the tablet on schedule next month.
