Samsung plans to start selling the Galaxy Tab 10.1 next month, but the company gave away around 5,000 special edition tablets to Google I/O attendees this week and the folks at Android Community have already posted a review.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 special edition has a white case and ships without Samsung’s TouchWiz customizations, so it’s not exactly the same as the model that will ship next month. But the hardware and overall system performance probably won’t change very much.

Android Community reports that the tablet is one of the thinnest 10 inch tablets available, but still packs a dual core NVIDIA Tegra 2 processor and 64GB of storage (retail models will be available with a range of storage capacities). There’s no microSD card slot in the special edition unit, but future models should have one.

The tablet has a 7000mAh battery and appears to get all-day battery life, although your results will likely vary depending on how you use the tablet.

The reviewer was underwhelmed by the 3.2MP and 2MP cameras on the tablet, but reports that the tablet is one of the fastest available and presents the benchmark results to back up that claim. Overall, Android Community deems the Galaxy Tab 10.1 the best Android tablet so far — but the way things are moving in the tablet space, that could certainly change by the time the device actually goes on sale in June.

  1. ZTE Light 2 – 7 inch all day Andriod Tablet with Pixel Qi screen is what I really want to see tested.

I really like 7 inches for portable device, as it is not too big, or too small, and the 1024×600 resolution (albiet I would like 1366×768 better) allows for screen use the beats the smaller devices out.

Samsung, sure wish they had Pixel Qi on board…?
