After a false start last week, it looks like the Samsung Galaxy S WiFi 4.0 may be available for purchase in the US. Amazon is taking orders for the 4 inch Android device for $229.99, although the retailer says it won’t ship for 3 to 6 weeks.

Update: Make that another false start. Amazon has pulled the product listing.

The Samsung Galaxy S WiFi is sort of an Android alternative to an iPod touch. You can call it a media player if you like, but since it runs Google Android 2.2 and comes with full access to the Android Market, it’s more like a smartphone without the ability to make phone calls over a cellular network. You can, however, install Skype or other apps to make voice and video calls over a WiFi connection.

The Samsung Galaxy S WiFi 4.0 has a 4 inch, 480 x 800 pixel display, 8GB of storage, a 3.2 MP rear camera with flash, a VGA front-facing camera, and 802.11b/g/n WiFi.

thanks Nards Barley!

  1. Does this product even exist in Russia?  People have said its being sold in Russia, but have they actually seen one purchased through a retailer?  I am beginnign to believe these were products Samsung made, but now have no plans to sell retail.

  2. Meh, why cant anyone make decent smartphone with WVGA or greater resolution, 4″ size, good battery life and GPS+3G for less than 200$?! Is it that hard? Nope, but it will surely eat into sales of more expensive phones. I guess Ill have to wait for another year or two before getting smartphone and tablet or combo. Prices are ridiculous!

    1. We’ll see how long that lasts. I’m getting tired of posting these links only to watch them go dead. I think I’ll probably wait for an official launch announcement before writing another article. 🙂

  3. I like the fact it comes with a USB to micro-USB cable.  The proprietary cable that comes with the Samsung Galaxy Tab sucks because every time I want to use it on a new computer I have to install that Kies program to install the drivers.
