Research in Motion unveiled a new video chat app for the BlackBerry PlayBook this morning. But that was just the tip of the iceberg. The company also introduced the next version of its smartphone operating system, software that lets BlackBerry users keep personal and professional data on their phones without jeopardizing corporate security, a solution allowing IT departments to manage Android and iOS phones and tablets, and an upcoming Facebook app for the PlayBook.

Here are some of the highlights:

  • RIM to launch enterprise solution for managing Android, iOS phones and tablets
The company has announced that it will offer enterprise customers software for pushing updates, managing security, and even remotely wiping Android and iOS phones and tablets. It’s like BlackBerry Enterprise Server — but without the BlackBerry phones.
  • BlackBerry Balance software manages personal, professional profiles on one device
Want to use your BlackBerry phone for Twitter, Facebook, Hotmail, or pretty much anything else that your corporate IT folks tell you is insecure? No problem. BlackBerry Balance lets you manage personal data on your phone without compromising your work data. For the most part it all looks the same on your phone, but you can’t post top secret work files on Facebook, and your job can selectively wipe your work data when you quit without deleting your personal contacts.
  • Research in Motion introduces BlackBerry OS 7
RIM unveiled two new phones this morning, the Blackberry Bold 9900 and Bold 9930. Oh yeah, they’ll also both run the next version of the BlackBerry operatinig system with improved graphics, expanded voice-activated search, support for HTML5 video, and more.
  • Facebook coming to the BlackBerry PlayBook this month
The BlackBerry PlayBook may get a dedicated Facebook app before the iPad or Android 3.0 Honeycomb. RIM says the app should be available for download later in May.
