Best Buy has already announced that the HTC Flyer 7 inch Android tablet would go on sale Sunday May 22nd. But several Android news sites are reporting that Best Buy staffers have been told that if the tablet is already in stock at their locations they should feel free to start selling them.

The tablet will run $499.99 and it won’t include the digital pen for drawing and handwriting. That will be sold separately for about $80.

The listing for the Flyer on the Best Buy web site is still showing a pre-order button.

I just got my hands on a demo unit today, and I have to say that so far I’m really liking the 7 inch form factor and the build quality, although to be honest, I’m not sure I really need the stylus all that much and I feel like HTC probably could have made a cheaper tablet by leaving out the N-Trig digitizer altogether. But I’ve only had a few hours to play with the tablet so far. I may find more uses for the stylus in the next week or two while I work on a complete review.

The HTC Flyer has a 1024 x 600 pixel display, front and rear cameras, a 1.5 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, and a customized version of Google Android 2.3 Gingerbread with HTC Sense 3.0.

  1.  I was really looking forward to this but the $80 pen burns my britches.  The pen is what made this tablet, else it is a big phone without a phone.  I know it is getting a 3.1 or 3.x update….but I just can’t justify it.  I’m a really disappointed geek.

  2.  I’ll be a LOT more interested in this when someone roots it to get rid of Sense and upgrade to 3.0 or 3.1…

    1. Anyone who has used an Android before would know you are not stuck with any home launcher with or without root.
