The Asus Eee PC 1215B is a laptop with a 12.1 inch display and an AMD Fusion processor. With a starting price of just $379, the laptop is priced just a bit higher than a typical netbook, but it packs higher performance graphics, a higher resolution display, a larger keyboard, and Windows 7 Home Premium instead of Starter Edition.

The folks at Asus sent me a demo unit to test. I’ll have a detailed review soon, but in the meantime you can check out my unboxing video below.

The model sitting on my desk is the $449 version which features a 1.6 GHz AMD E-350 dual core processor and Radeon HD 6310 graphics. The cheaper model has a slower 1 GHz AMD C-50 dual core CPU and Radeon HD 6250 graphics.

Under the hood, this laptop is a lot like the HP Pavilion dm1z I reviewed recently, and I’d be surprised if performance is much different on this model. But the screen is a littler larger (although it retains the same 1366 x 768 pixel resolution), the touchpad and keyboard areas are different, and the while the HP laptop has a 55Whr batter, the Asus model I’m reviewing has a 56Whr battery. We’ll see if that difference means anything at all in terms of battery life.

Amazon is currently offering the Eee PC 1215B-PU17 with the AMD E-350 processor for $437. Buy.com has the Eee PC 1215B-MU17 with the C-50 chip for $376.

  1. Setting aside 10 inches, no manufacturer has come out with a decent 11.6 or a 12 inch netbook that last 10 hours. When will the manufacturers start coming out with tegra 11.6 inch screens?

Brad any idea when a “smartbook” with a 11.6 and a tegra/arm going to come out?

  2. This one is the only e350 that comes with USB3 right now, correct? It is also a bit cheaper than the others with .. well lets be honest, basically the same machine with a few different dot points on the flyer.

The BIG difference for the truly picky buyers (like me) is that USB3 thing, the slightly cheaper RRP, and the fact these ones should come in a range of cool colors if the ..dot points on the flyer is to be believed.

  3. Sitting here with my 1215B right now, surfing the web, bluetooth on and brightness at 50%. Battery showing 5:20 to go at 91%. This thing is great and runs HD video without a hiccup. WiFi range is good as well.

  4. Hey Brad,

I’m looking for a replacement for my 1201N and this looks to fit the bill. Battery life? Says on Amazon that they claim up to 8.5 which is crazy good.

Look forward to the full review. 🙂

    1. In the mean time, while waiting for Brad’s full review, you should check the Eee User Forum. Owners of the 1215B are already reporting in on their experiences and you can ask them questions for anything not already covered.
