Asus has launched its first 10 inch netbook with an Intel Atom N570 dual core 1.66 GHz processor. It’s called the Eee PC 1015PX, and it looks pretty much just like every other recent 10 inch mini-laptop from Asus. It’s just has a processor that’s a tiny bit faster.

The Eee PC 1015PX most closely resembles the Eee PC1015PEM which has a 1.5 GHz Intel Atom N550 chip. But since Asus doesn’t have the infrastructure available to let customers pick and choose hard drive, CPU, memory, or other options when placing an order the way Dell or HP do, Asus tends to add a new model number every time there’s a modest spec bump.

The netbook has the usual 10.1 inch, 1024 x 600 pixel display and 1GB of memory and ships with Windows 7 Starter Edition, a 0.3MP camera, 80211b/g/n WiFi, and Bluetooth 3.0.

The Asus Eee PC 1015PX-PU17 packs a 56Whr battery. You can pick up that model from Buy.com for $346. If you can live with slightly less battery life, the Eee PC 1015PX-MU17 has a 48Whr battery and runs $320 at Amazon.

  1. You’re probably right about the model addition, though you usually have to be careful with any Asus model ending with “X” as that designation is usually given to their value models, which are given mono speakers, two USB ports instead of 3, combo mic/headphone jack, and choices between XP and Windows 7.

But it seems this model is just a model fill in like you suspect and even uses the same BIOS versions. Though on the product page it shows the same model will be sold with either a N455 or a N570, and storage options are 250GB, 320GB and 500GB. Along with an additional 3 cell battery option.

So we may see some variants of this model sold around the world.
