The Acer Iconia Tab A100 went up for pre-order in the UK this week, but it looks like we’re going to have to wait a little while to get the 7 inch tablet in the US. Joanna Stern at This Is My Next met with Acer this week to take a look at the Iconia Tab A100 and she was told it wouldn’t launch in the States until the third quarter of the year, sometime between July and September.

The Acer Iconia Tab A100 features most of the specs we’ve grown to expect from a tablet running Google Android 3.0 Honeycomb including an NVIDIA Tegra 2 dual core processor and a rather sparse number of buttons.

But the Iconia Tab A100 isn’t just smaller than most Honeycomb tablets. It also has a lower resolution display. While the Acer Iconia Tab A500, Motorola XOOM, Asus Eee Pad Transformer, and other 10 inch Honeycomb tablets have high resolution 1280 x 800 pixel displays, the A100 has a 1024 x 600 pixel screen.

Stern reports that the on-screen Honeycomb keyboard is easy to type on in landscape mode, but she wasn’t able to test it in portrait mode due to a problem with the demo unit.

The tablet has a black glossy plastic case, HDMI and micro USB slots, and a microSD card reader.

  1. Hi, Im just wondering, so many bad feedbacks about Acer products around the web, specially, about laptops. Can you compare this tablet with analog tablet from Dell.com or for an example 7 Inch Android 3.0 from Oakms.info ?

  2. OK but where is ZTE Light 2 that is a 7 inch screen with Pixel Qi – that Jkkmobile found at Mobile World Congress? Due, 2nd quarter. Anyone know if it is on it’s way to North America, Europe, etc?

  3. I really wish it didn’t drop in resolution; 600 deep (or wide, depending) just gets cramped — that’s the main thing I have against my netbook. An Asus Transformer would actually give me *more* pixel real estate, as well as be easier to carry. Maybe one day I will, but for now I don’t mind a small screen, if it gives me the pixels.
