Sprint has announced that it will be the second major US wireless carrier to offer the Motorola XOOM Android tablet. But while Verizon is selling a 3G model with the promise of a free upgrade to the network’s 4G LTE network in the coming months, Sprint will be offering the WiFi version of the tablet. If you want to use it on Sprint’s 3G or 4G networks, you’ll need to get a WiFi hotspot device.
The good news is that means you won’t have to pay $799.99 to get the tablet. It will run $599.99 instead. The less exciting news? That’s pretty much what everyone else is charging for the WiFi version of the Motorola XOOM. So you could pick one up from Sprint in a few weeks… or you could walk into a Staples and buy one today.
The tablet has a 1 GHz NVIDIA Tegra 2 dual core processor, a 10.1 inch, 1280 x 800 pixel display, 1GB of memory, 32GB of storage, Blutooth, WiFi, GPS, and pretty much everything else you get with the 3G version… except 3G.
Sprint will begin offering the tablet on Sunday, May 8th.
