A WiFi-only version of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7 inch Android tablet will be available for $349.99 starting April 10th. The company has been offering a 3G version of the tablet since late last year, with mobile carriers offering subsidized tablets for as low as $200 to customers that sign up for a long term service contract. But with 3G contracts running as high as $60 per month, the WiFi-only model is a much better deal for anyone who doesn’t need always-on internet access.
The Samsung Galaxy Tab has a 1 GHz Samsung Hummingbird processor, a 7 inch, 1024 x 600 pixel capacitive touchscreen display and runs Google Android 2.2. It has 16GB of storage and weighs 13 ounces. It’s also one of the few Android 2.2 tablets to come with access to the Google Android Market and other Google apps including Gmail, YouTube, and Google Maps.
The tablet has 802.11b/g/n WiFi, Blueooth 3.0, and a USB 2.0 port.
When I reviewed the Galaxy Tab last year, it was probably the best Android tablet money could buy. Today there are a number of other models with faster processors, newer operating systems, and other special features. But for $350 you could certainly do worse than the Galaxy Tab — especially since there’s work underway to bring an unofficial version of Android 3.0 to the tablet, you know, just in case Samsung never bothers to offer an official upgrade.
On sale April 10 at absolutely nowhere, not Verizon, not Best Buy, not Samsung. What a hoax.
Try TigerDirect.
I would like to correct the article above with the correct specs, the wifi version has be dumbed down with the price, here are the new specs –
SAMSUNG Galaxy Tab Tablet TI OMAP3630 1.00GHz 7″ Wide VGA 512MB Memory 8GB Flash HDD PowerVR SGX530 800 x 480

I was wrong about the storage, it has 16GB, not 32GB. But according to the Samsung spec page, it still has a Hummingbird processor and 600 x 1024 pixel display. I’m not sure where those Newegg specs came from, but the price is also wrong.

I saw one spring up at the Samsung store near where I work for about 550,000 won slotted into a keyboard for about 90,000 won. No mouse, though…. might be the long lasting typewriter I’ve been wanting since I stopped using my Palm III.
Here’s what I don’t get. 7, 8 and 9″ netbooks suck and nobody wants them anymore. Windows fault? Now suddenly this 7″ tablet is supposed to be the greatest? I don’t get it. Android is so different and impressive and that’s enough for people to be impressed with 7″ screens? At least with the 7″ netbooks there was a keyboard. Again, is it the price or is it the actual product? Keep on dropping the price on this. If they haven’t noticed, the trend is <$300 netbooks. Yes, keyboard included. Good luck Samsung.
Tablets can be smaller than netbooks, because the viewing distance is less–about 1 ft for tabs vs 2-3 ft for a laptop.
And since you have to hold it in one hand for an extended amount of time, smaller tabs are also more desirable, especially for those with smaller hands (women, kids) or less hand strength (seniors).
I think the 7″ will likely be the most popular size.
Notice the difference of the Android community Vs Apple community.
Android “fans” are more than willing to dish this tablet as being to late and now outdated for the price. They are capable of pointing out the flaws in any Android device.
Would really be nice to see the apple community have such objective views on apple devices. . . but that ain’t going to happen in that cult.
