Google is making it much easier to upload a large number of documents to Google Docs in one fell swoop. Last year the company updated Google Docs with a new drag-and-drop file uploader. Now Google is starting to roll out a new upload menu that lets you send a complete directory of documents from your desktop to the cloud.
The folder structure should be preserved, so if you have subfolders, they’ll show up as new collections within the Google Docs interface.
You can also see progress of multiple document uploads, and you can also drag-and-drop multiple documents simultaneously.
The Google Docs web-based editor lets you view, create, and edit text, spreadsheet, and presentation files from most desktop web browsers. The online office suite can open Microsoft Word documents as well as docs in a number of other formats — but some formatting may be affected when trying to convert complex Office documents to Google Docs.
Microsoft has recently begun pushing its own web-based solution which features better compatibility with desktop versions of Office. But if you’re willing to overlook cross-platform formatting issues, Google’s update will make it easier to upload your document collection to the cloud for on-the-go access, off-site backup, and collaboration.
