The Alienware M11x has earned a reputation over the past year as a surprisingly powerful ultraportable laptop with high performance graphics and a small 11.6 inch display. Now Dell is updating the M11x with a faster processor, higher performance graphics, and… a higher starting price.
While the laptop launched last year with a starting price of $799, the new model starts at $999. It looks like Dell decided to focus on portability over affordability.
That said, the updated Alienware M11x packs a heck of a punch for such a small laptop. It’s available with an Intel Core i5 2537M or Core i7 2617M processor, from 4GB to 16GB f DDR3 memory, and an NVIDIA GT540UM graphics card with up to 2GB of dedicated memory.
The laptop has an 11.6 inch, 1366 x 768 pixel display, 5.1 or 7.1 channel audio, up to 750GB of hard drive space or a 256GB SSD, and runs Windows 7 Home Premium, Pro, or Ultimate. It comes with an 8 cell, 63Whr battery.
The M11x is kind of heavy for an 11.6 inch model, at 4.4 pounds. But it’s actually pretty light for a gaming laptop.

This has really caught my eye. I just don’t know enough about modern graphics to know how the GT540UM compares with desktop video cards. I hope you get one of these in to run some benchmarks.
btw, your title has “M11z” rather than “M11x” — caused me a bit of confusion. 🙂
Whoops. I thought I had fixed that typo!
