The Acer Iconia Tab A500 Android tablet has a 10.1 inch, 1280 x 800 pixel display and NVIDIA Tegra 2 processor, which means it can handle HD video playback without breaking a sweat. But what if you want to watch your movies on a big screen? It looks like Acer will offer a docking station with HDMI output and a wireless remote control.

Blogeee has snagged some pictures of the new dock and remote. The remote lets you control audio or video playback without getting your lazy butt up from the couch. The dock also props up the tablet at an angle so you can watch without plugging in an external display, although I wouldn’t want to sit too far away from a 10 inch screen while watching movies.

The Acer Iconia Tab A500 actually has a mini-HDMI port built into the case, so the docking station isn’t absolutely necessary for displaying content on a big screen TV. But it certainly is necessary if Acer wants to get you to spend a little extra money on the $450 tablet.

  1. Every device with a CCD camera is already an IR receiver.  Point your TV remote control at any CCD camera and press the button on the remote.  You can see the IR on the camera display.

  2. The dock might be necessary if the remote is IR though.
I have been saying for a while that all these tablets should have a built in IR port.
The couch is the obvious place for these things and it does not take a genius to realize that the ability to control typical media appliances often located near said couches would be a good idea.
Though apparently it was not so obvious as to make the feature cut in most tablets. That’s a design flaw in my book.
