Best Buy has announced it will begin taking pre-sale orders for the HTC Flyer 7 inch Android tablet on Monday, April 25th. The tablet will be available in the US later this spring, and it will sell for $499.

The HTC Flyer features a 7 inch, 1024 x 600 pixel capacitive touchscreen display which can also accept pressure-sensitive input from an included stylus. The tablet has a 1.5 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon single core processor and runs a customized version of Google Android 2.3. An Android 3.0 Honeycomb update is expected later this year.

The Flyer goes on sale in Europe on May 9th. The US price appears to be much lower than had originally been suggested, but the HTC Flyer enters a crowded marketplace. It will have to compete with tablets from Acer, Asus, Dell, and other device makers for the same price or lower.

Update: The Best Buy web site originally stated the pre-sale would start on April 24th, but the page had been updated to say April 25th.

  1. I appreciate that HTC wish to preserve the ‘Sense’ experience, however they really need to get on to Android 3.0 as quickly as possible as Android 2.x are for phones. Android 3.x is for tablets.

That being said, I’m really holding out for a HTC device as I do like the Sense experience and I am interested in the note syncing feature of the Flyer.
