VIA has introduced a dual core version of its low power Eden chip. The new VIA Eden X2 is a 40nm chip with two 64-bit cores, which the company says means they’re optimized for multitasking and multimedia performance.
The company also claims that the VIA Eden X2 line of chips are “the world’s most power-efficient dual-core processors,” but doesn’t btoher providing any information about power consumption to back up that claim just yet.
The Eden X2 is designed to play well with fanless systems and support Windows Embedded 7, Linux, and Windows CE. The chips are also pin-to-pin compatible with VIA Eden, C7, and Nano chips, which should make it easy for system builders to switch to the Eden X2 without changing motherboards or other components.
