I’m not entirely sure why anyone would want to stick a tablet to a refrigerator door (a dry erase board seems like a cheaper tool for writing grocery shopping lists), but MacRumors has discovered that the iPad 2 Smart Cover’s magnets are strong enough to hold Apple’s latest tablet to a fridge.
The iPad 2 actually has magnets hidden away in the case design so that you can quickly throw the optional Smart Cover over the top and protect the screen without any velcro, snaps, or other doodads.
This isn’t the first time we’ve seen a tablet stuck to a fridge door. A few years ago early Always Innovating Touch Book users were doing the same thing, thanks to that tablet’s built-in magnets. Unfortunately the Touch Book has a way of sliding down the refrigerator until it reaches the floor. You may have better results with the iPad 2, since at 1.3 pounds it’s a lighter machine than the 2 pound Touch Book.
There’s no word on whether “falling off a fridge door when I went for a late night snack” is covered under the Apple iPad 2 warranty.
The iPad2 owes most of its reduced thickness to thinner LCD and glass, but despite the reduction the glass seems more durable than the original iPad’s. So small drops are survivable but it can still be smashed…

I wouldn’t say that the Touch Book doesn’t hold correctly. I would say more that the author was not able to put the magnets correctly…
