The Samsung Sliding PC 7 Series is more than just a computer with an unnecessarily long name. It’s also a PC which can function as either a notebook or a tablet, thanks to a slide-out keyboard which hangs out under the screen. The Sliding Series computer is designed to be much more compact than an old-school convertible tablet with a swivel for rotating the display and folding it down over the keyboard. Samsung introduced the computer at CES in January, and now it’s starting to show up for pre-order at US retailers for prices ranging from about $670 to $760.

The Samsung Sliding PC 7 Series features a 10.1 inch, 1366 x 768 pixel touchscreen display and a 1.5 GHz Intel Atom Z670 Oak Trail processor. It runs Windows 7 Home Premium and scomes with 2GB of RAM, a 32GB solid state disk, and a 3 cell battery.

The computer measures 10.5″ x 7″ x 0.8″ and weighs 2.2 pounds. At launch, Samsung said the 7 Series should be available in March for about $699 and up, so while most of the stores with product pages say the computer is out of stock, we might not have to wait long for it to start shipping.

  1. Gorgeous design. I’m already sold on the Fujitsu Q550, but if this baby had a digitizer/stylus… I’d reconsider.

  2. Just to inform readers and slightly off-topic. Some news for you Brad.

I just saw the Samsung NC210 that you previewed last month. Shockingly, in Asia, its comes with a crazy 8850 MAH battery. Weight and slimness remain the same as a normal 4800 MAH battery. So, the unit is about 1.2Kgs.

It also comes with a dual core N570, 2GB spec.

There are no reviews yet but in your opinion, how long do you think this crazy power battery can give? I can’t believe the capacity of this battery!!!

If this is so, Samsung may be breathing new life to the netbook in the light of the proliferation of tablets

    1. The Samsung N310 “Go” had an 8850 mAh battery, so this isn’t completely new. That model got around 8.5 hours of run time — but it had an older version of the Atom chip. At the time, that was pretty spectacular, but it’s not all that unusual these days.

      1. In your opinion Brad, how long do you think the 8850mAh battery can give with wifi on and normal surfing as well as 50% brightness?

        1. There are too many unknown factors at play. I know Sascha likes to make guesses based on the mAh alone, but I’ve seen too many computers with high capacities provides lower than expected battery life and vice versa to hazard any real guess.

          1. very true. I too have seen that. Sometimes a mere 4800mAH gives far better juice than a 5900mAh.

  3. “we don’t really have any consumer name of it”
the consumer name is Samsung Sliding PC 7 Series..
i think it will end up as Samsung S7.
    XD.
