IN Media Corp has announced plans to offer a tablet running Google Android 2.2 for about $199. The Tablet PC 7 will feature WiFi, Bluetooth, and an SD card slot, and according to the company’s press release the device will be available in April.
There’s no word on the processor or other specs. But it’s interesting that the tablet is coming from a company whose expertise is primarily in IPTV services. Will this just be another me-too tablet, or could it have special TV-specific features, such as the ability to act as a remote control or stream video programming from a set top box? If I had to guess, I’d say the low price tag means it’ll just be another generic tablet with a sluggish processor. But one can hope.
IN Media also offers a 10 inch tablet that dual boots Windows 7. That model is available in Asia and features an HDMI port for watching video on an external display. And last year IN Media introduced 7 and 10 inch tablets running Android 2.1.
