The Home Shopping Network is selling a version of the Barnes & Noble NOOKcolor eBook reader for $299 .90, with a bonus SD card loaded with 100 free books. As far as I can tell, you’re paying $50 for a 2GB SD card and a bunch of books that you could download from the internet for free, since Barnes & Noble charges $249 for the NOOKcolor.
But here’s the interesting thing: The HSN web site suggests that the NOOKcolor will be getting a major software update in April.
The product description doesn’t explain exactly what will be included in the update, but further down the page there’s mention of Adobe Flash support — and that probably means we’re talking about an operating system update to Android 2.2 or higher. Right now the NOOKcolor ships with Android 2.1, which isn’t capable of supporting Flash.
The Home Shopping Network also says the software update will be available first to HSN customers, which would be a bit surprising to say the least.
