The Asus Eee Pad Transformer is scheduled to hit the streets in Taiwan on Friday, March 25th. That will make it the first tablet from Asus to ship with Google Android 3.0 Honeycomb, and also the first tablet from Asus with a removable keyboard option. Asus is expected to launch 3 other Honeycomb tablets in the coming months.
The Eee Pad Transformer has a 1 GHz NVIDIA Tegra 2 dual core processor and a 10.1 inch, 1280 x 800 pixel IPS capacitive multitouch display. It comes with 1GB of memory and 16GB to 32GB of storage. While it will run Google Android 3.0, it’s not clear at the moment whether Asus will offer a customized version of the software. At CES in January the company was showing a version of the tablet running Android 2.x with a custom user interface.
The tablet will include 802.11b/g/n WiFi, Bluetooth 2.1, a mini-HDMI jack, audio jack, and microSD card reader. The tablet will be available for purchase either with or without the detachable keyboard which turns the device into a sort of Android-powered laptop computer.
The Eee Pad Transformer will likely be available in the US and Europe soon. You can find more information at the Asus Club Taiwan Facebook page and the Asus Eee fan page.
