Sony has begun taking orders for the Vaio YB notebook the company introduced at CES last month. The Sony Vaio YB features an 11.6 inch, 1366 x 768 pixel display and a dual core 1.6 GHz AMD E-350 Zacate chip with AMD Radeon 6310 graphics.

The laptop runs $599.99 for a model with 4GB of RAM and a 500GB hard drive. Amazon is also taking pre-orders for a $549.99 version with 2GB of RAM and a 320GB hard drive.

The laptop has VGA and HDMI output, 802.11b/g/n WiFi, Bluetooth 2.1, and weighs about 3.2 pounds. It has an attractive design with an island-style keyboard (with flat keys and spaces between them), and a touchpad with distinct buttons for left and right. The base of the laptop is blakc and silver, but silver and pink lid options are available.

  2. Some say there’s a backlit keyboard, but after few photos I rly doubt about that, since it’s letters are like those typical “stickers”.. maybe I’m doing some mistake here D:

  3. I just saw this unit just now and was thinking of buying it. Is the 1.6 GHz AMD E-350 Zacate faster than the Atom N550?

    Does it also eat more battery than the N550?

    1. Zacate faster than Atom ?? of course yes !! It also seems to be faster than D525 (by fast I mean efficient).
      I know AMD Zacate is new tech and has very low consumption compared to oser platforms. I can’t tell you less use of battery than N550, but I can tell you better use !
      The only BIG MISTAKE of Sony here, is NO USB 3.0

    1. to clarify, because i have no idea, is it that it’s just installed as the 32-bit version and can be reinstalled as the 64-bit version with the same licence, or are you stuck with it? why did they go with the 32-bit version anyway? is there a purpose to that, or some hardware limitation in the amd fusion platform that i missed?

      1. Lowest common denominator, system is sold with only 2GB of RAM and that usually gets coupled with 32bit Windows…
