Sony Vaio YA 11.6 inch notebook hits Italy

02/21/2011 at 9:50 AM by Brad Linder 3 Comments

Sony introduced the Vaio YB series 11.6 inch laptop with an AMD E-350 Zacate processor last month, and the laptop is now available for around $550 in the US. Now it looks like Sony is offering a variation on the theme in Italy. The Sony Vaio YA looks virtually identical to the YB, but it has an Intel processor instead of an AMD chip.

The Sony Vaio YA is available with a choice of an Intel Core i3-380UM processor or a Core i5-470UM chip. It has an 11.6 inch, 1366 x 768 pixel display and runs Windows 7 Home Premium or Professional.

The base model of the laptop comes with 2GB of RAM and 320GB of RAM, but it can also be configured with more storage, a high performance solid state drive, and up to 8GB of DDR3 memory. Sony says a standard battery should provide up to 6 hours of run time, while a 12 hour battery is also available.

Prices in Europe start at € 649, or about $887, but that includes the VAT. If and when Sony offers the Vaio YA in the US, it will likely carry a much lower price tag.

That’s the AMD powered Sony Vai YB, not the YA version with an Intel chip.

Hi Brad. Vaio YA (yep, Intel Core i3 powered) made its debut in India a couple of weeks back.
