Samsung already offers a 7 inch Android tablet and a line of 4 inch Android phones. This month the company announced plans to bring a 10.1 inch Android tablet to market, plus 4 and 5 inch portable media players running Android, as well as smaller phones. So what’s left?

According to Yohnhapnews, Samsung is preparing to fill in one of the blank spots with an 8.9 inch Android tablet.

The tablet is reportedly due out during the first half of 2011 and will be sold through mobile operators, which means it will likely feature 3G or 4G capabilities.

It’s not clear at this point whether Samsung really thinks there’s demand for 8.9 inch and 10 inch tablets or if the company is just covering its bases. But it appears the company will either phase out its 7 inch Galaxy Tab soon or reclassify it as a phone since Samsung apparently doesn’t believe that 7 inches makes sense for tablets.
