The Motorola XOOM Android tablet is now shipping with a 3G modem, but Motorola is offering to upgrade the tablet for free by adding a 4G LTE modem when available. You’ll need to send your tablet to Motorola to get the upgrade though, and now Verizon has posted details on how the process will work.
Basically, Verizon recommends backing up your data to a PC or Mac before sending off the tablet, and also suggests that you may want to encrypt your device or perform a factory reset so that if anything goes wrong with your shipment your personal data won’t be at risk.
Probably the only step you really need to follow is the section that explains how to safely pack up the XOOM to send off via FedEx using a pre-paid shipping envelope.
If you’re waiting (im)patiently for Verizon and Motorola to actually begin offering the 4G upgrades, you can sign up to receive an email notification when the upgrade is available.
