This is a pleasant surprise. Last I’d heard Lenovo had delayed the US launch of the ThinkPad X120e business-class ultraportable laptop until March. But guess what showed up on the Lenovo web site today?

The Lenovo ThinkPad X120e is now available for purchase for $399 and up. The base price gets you a laptop with an 11.6 inch, 1366 x 768 pixel display, a 1.5 GHz AMD E-240 single core processor, AMD Radeon 6310 graphics, 2GB of DDR3 memory, a 250GB hard drive and a 3 cell, 40 W/h battery. The laptop comes standard with 802.11b/g/n WiFi.

If you want a dual core AMD E-350 dual core processor, Bluetooth, additional memory or hard drive space or a 6 cell, 56 W/h battery, you’ll have to pay extra. But I was able to configure the laptop with a high capacity battery and dual core processor for just $489, which still isn’t bad at all.

The base price also includes Windows 7 Home Premium. The ThinkPad X120e is also available with Windows 7 Professional for $50 more.

  1. hey does anyone know if this nifty piece has a cdrom drive or any kind of alternative drive? i didnt see it cited in the writeup.

  2. I see that the 3 and 4GB options use 2 DIMMs, is it possible to upgrade this sucker to 6/8GB?

I’m guessing that there’s a slot internal to the system, anyone know?

  3. Looks like the No-OS option has vaporized from all avenues of purchase. BOO.

  4. Bought it for $367 including tax with E-350, no OS, 6-cell battery, BT3.0 options.
I’m gonna add additional 2GB of RAM and replace 250GB 5400RPM HDD with Crucial C300 64GB SSD once I receive it.
What’s sad is that Lenovo is not planning to release X120e here in Japan so had to ship it to my friend’s place in the states, which will probably going to add an extra week until I get my hands on this bad boy.

      1. Forum on SlickDeals, which the link is placed at the bottom of the above article, explains how.
        1. Go to https://www.lenovo.com/spp and create an account.(free)
        2. Log in by using the account you just created.
        3. Surf down to the product page of X120e.
        4. Configure the setup and there you will see no OS option(ThinkPad PC DOS License)

          1. thanks buddy,
but it seems that lenovo already wiped out this option even on SPP,
I do hope they won’t cancel your order…

    1. I plan to do the same thing from the UK, do you know if you need a U.S debit card or can I just use my UK debit card? (mine in registered to a UK address

  5. How did you find the no OS option? I dont see it anywhere. Maybe they removed it?

EDIT: found it. Hope they dont cancel these orders

  6. You are welcome Brad. I been waiting for this netbook since CES 🙂
Anyways I went through lenovo.com/spp and opted for NO WIN OS and got mine for $330, with 6 cell and E-350.

    Shipping date is March 4th.

    1. Finally! It’s up for order. I also went through that site and got mine for about $375 which is amazing, I didn’t expect that. I’m building an x120e with an SSD,6 cell, and E-350, all for under $500.

Caution: I “googled” the NO WIN OS option that Thinkpad offers on the x120e. Back in November, the DOS option was available on another Thinkpad, some orders were shipped while others were cancelled. I’m hoping mine ships.

      1. I placed my order first with the WIN 7 Pre 64 bit, and just seconds after I realized that i could downgrade to no OS, so I ordered that one. NO OS downgrade is 117 cheaper + tax, so around $130. I’m sure I can get a legit 64 bit Win 7 for less than that. For now I will let both orders active.

        1. My first order was with Win7 32-bit and five minutes later I found the DOS option. I chatted with lenovo and they would not change my order to DOS, they said it was not available on the x120e even though it was in my Cart. So, I cancelled the first order with win7 and re-ordered without. We will see what happens.

  7. The link which is supposed to show the x120e for $399 and up appears to be incorrect. It’s the same link as the one that talks about the x120e being available in March.
