Verizon dropped the price of a Samsung Galaxy Tab to $299.99 with a 2-year contract this week. That means that there are now 5 major US wireless carriers offering the tablet for under $300 when you sign up for a 3G contract. The lone holdout is AT&T, which is still charging $549.99 for a contract-free tablet. AT&T doesn’t currently offer a contract plan for the Galaxy Tab.
Here’s a roundup of US carriers offering the Tab:
- US Cellular: $199.99 after rebate with a 2-year contract
- T-Mobile: $249.99 after rebate with a 2-year contract
- Sprint: $299.99 with a 2-year contract
- Verizon: $299.99 with a 2-year contract
- AT&T: $549.99 without a contract
Of course, those prices only tell part of the story. Verizon, Sprint, and T-Mobile offer the tablet contract-free for $499.99, while US Cellular charges $599.99.
Data plans range from $14.99 per month to $80 per month depending on the carrier and bandwidth, with most providers charging around $50 to $60 per month for a 5GB data plan.
Getting closer. Drop it down to $300-400 contract-free and we’re talking, especially with the influx of dual-core, Honeycomb-powered tablets.
There’s always a Nook Color, though. But this seems like it’s more refined, more put together. But then again, it’s Samsung, which I’m not a fan of.
