The Toshiba NB550D is one of the first netbooks to feature a dual core AMD C-50 Ontario chip with ATI Radeon 6250 graphics. That makes it an interesting test case for AMD’s new competitor to Intel’s Atom chipset, which currently dominates the netbook landscape. Details about the netbook are starting to emerge from Australia and Europe, but if you’ve been waiting to find our more about US availability I have some bad news.

A Toshiba representative tells me that the company doesn’t currently plan to offer the NB550D in the United States. That could change, but right now the mini-laptop isn’t scheduled for release here.

As far as I’m aware, the only other company planning to release a 10 inch netbook with an AMD C-50 processor is Acer. The Acer Aspire One 522 isn’t shipping yet, but it’s available for pre-order from Amazon for $330.
