There’s more evidence today that the Notion Ink Adam tablet is finally shipping. Founder Rohan Shravan posted a series of photos showing a number of tablets all wrapped up in their retail packaging. And then he took one out of the box to show what it looks like.

There aren’t a ton of surprises, but it’s nice to see the final design. The Adam actually comes in a sloped box that’s sort of a cross between a triangle and a rectangle — much like the Adam tablet itself, which is thicker at one side than the other.

What’s more, you can actually use the box as a stand for the tablet. The cardboard can be propped up so that it holds the tablet at a good angle for watching videos, engaging in video chat, or perform other actions where you might not want to hold the tablet in your hands. While I’m not sure if a cardboard box is the best possible material to use for a stand, it’s nice to see a company decide to do something to make the box useful after you’ve opened it for the first time.

Shravan says the shipping process will take a little while, since the first units start at a factory in China, then go to Hong Kong before they’re sent out for final delivery.

Customers are also reporting that tracking information is finally available.

  1. Nice that they’re finally shipping (and I mean that in a good way) but the battle is only half over. They need to tackle customer service full force so they don’t end up phased out because of poor PR. How about starting with announcing what NI plans to do with the discount they promised to the logo contestants? There has been questions about it (from the contestants) since pre-order1 via comments and emails and nothing has been said. Come on NI make it right already.

    1. I think the last thing they will need to worry about is poor PR 🙂 Notion Ink is very good at generating hype and goodwill (and I also mean that in a good way). The company is still unknown in India (I live in India) and I am surprised by the fanatic fan-following they enjoy. It has now reached such a point that every post that mentions the name Notion Ink will get 20 plus comments.

Clearly, the Notion Ink story has inspired quite a few among us. And that is probably because everybody loves the underdog. I sort of think that even if they don’t provide that perfect customer service they will be able to get away.
