Research in Motion and Sprint have announced plans to launch a 4G capable version of the BlackBerry PlayBook tablet on Sprint’s 4G WiMAX network. The BlackBerry 4G PlayBook is due out this summer.
This makes Sprint the first major US wireless carrier to commit to offering the BlackBerry tablet. Interestingly, GigaOm reports that the tablet won’t offer 3G connectivity, so if you’re in an area with spotty 4G coverage (or none at all), you’re going to have to rely on the PlayBook’s WiFi capabilities.
The 7 inch tablet features a dual core 1GHz CPU, Adobe Flash support, and 1GB of RAM. Pricing won’t be available until “closer to launch.”
