Well this is interesting. Riccardo at Eee PC.it spotted the Asus Eee Slate EP121 user manual online, and it holds a few surprises. For instance, the tablet comes with a Bluetooth keyboard. When demo models of the 12 inch tablet popped up earlier this year, it had a design that looked a lot like the 10 inch Eee Pad Tranformer, with a detachable keyboard. But now that Asus is getting ready to ship the EP121 this month, the company is positioning it as a standalone Windows tablet… that just happens to come with a wireless keyboard. It’s not a docking station-style keyboard and it won’t turn the tablet into a laptop. But it will make typing a heck of a lot easier.

According to the user manual, you also get a folio/case, power adapter, wiping cloth, recovery DVD, and spare parts for the Wacom stylus in the package.

The manual also has detailed information on how to actually use the tablet, including a 12-point diagram showing how to use the buttons and ports on the left side of the device alone. You can download the whole PDF of the English version of the user manual, or hit up the FTP site for alternate languages.

You can also find more in my hands-on with the EP121 from CES. The Asus Eee Slate EP121 is available from Amazon for $999 and up. The tablet features a 12.1 inch, 1280 x 800 pixel capacitive touchscreen display, a Wacom active digitizer, and an Intel Core i5 processor. It runs Windows 7 Home Premium.

  1. I have received mine on the first release and I am pleased. I needed to upgrade to Windows 7 Pro as we use a domain, and it took a little work to do that, but all is well.

The bluetooth keyboard didn’t pair easily after the upgrade. The keyboard supplied is the Microsoft 6000. A little known fact is that if you old the reset button for 30+ seconds the led will alternate colors. At that point pairing goes smoothly.

Somewhat of a pain is the lack of a hardware switch to turn off the Wireless system. If you fly and want to use it on the plane, they won’t take kindly to RF in the cabin. Tech support are not up to speed on this new model, but function F2 does indeed shut down the Wireless. Not sure about the bluetooth.

The weigh for the size is understandable. The comment about adding keyboard and powersupply to the bag’s weight assumes you wouldn’t carry the power supply with your notebook. All considered, this is a heck of a tablet for those who need larger displays.

  2. There’s a photo of the keyboard up on that Amazon product page.
