Asus Eee Slate EP121 up for pre-order

01/05/2011 at 12:00 AM by Brad Linder 7 Comments

Asus introduced 4 slate-style computers this afternoon — but three of them won’t be available until Google launches the next version of its Android operating system, code-named Honeycomb. That’s not expected to happen for a few more months. But Asus will begin shipping the Eee Slate EP121 soon. This 12.1 inch tablet runs Windows 7, which means it’s pretty much ready to go.

Asus is taking pre-orders for 32GB and 64GB versions of the EP121. You can sign up at Amazon.com. The only catch? There’s no final pricing yet, although Asus expects the tablet to sell for $999 to $1099. Update: As expected, the 32GB model will run $999, while the 64GB version costs $1099.99.

The Eee Slate EP121 has a 12.1 inch, 1280 x 800 pixel IPS capacitive touchscreen display and an Intel Core i5-470UM processor. It runs Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit and is available with 2GB to 4GB of RAM. It supports 802.11b/g/n WiFi, Bluetooth 3.0, a mini-HDMI port, flash card reader, USB port, and 2MP webcam.

It’s a full Windows computer, comparing it to the iPad is like comparing a laptop to your Smart Phone!

Literally, since the iPad uses the same basic hardware and OS as their iPhone!

So, if you want to compare to the iPad then do so with likes of their 10″ EP101 “Transformer” Android tablet.

Btw, for those who don’t know all lithium batteries lose capacity over time and even the iPad’s 10+ hours turns into 6 hours after about 9 months of use and the battery is non-user replaceable.

I have seen it and played with it over the Xmas holidays. With the folio and wireless keyboard it is a bargain. It does everything a laptop does but more portable and the graphics are amazing…blows away the iPad!
