Chinese chip maker Fuzhou Rockchip Electronics makes the chips that power a number of the cheap Android tablets we’ve seen coming out of China over the past year or so. Now the company plans to introduce a new line of chips, aimed specifically at devices running Android 2.2, Google TV, and similar software.
The Rockhip RK29xx processors are 55nm chips with 2D and 3D graphics acceleration to support 1080p HD video decoding on devices ranging from smartphone sand tablets to internet TV devices. The platform will also support Gogol’es new open source WebM VP8 video codec.
Rockchip plans to show off new products based on the chips including tablets, eBook readers, and portable media players at CES in January.
