Sony is certainly no stranger to making thin and light computers, but the company has a tendency to offer premium features and premium price tags which make it difficult to confuse those notebooks with netbooks. Even the Sony Vaio W line of 10 inch laptops with Atom processors, which are pretty typical netbook fare, tend to cost more than most netbooks on the market.

So it probably shouldn’t surprise anyone that Sony’s latest 11.6 inch laptop has a price tag of well over $1000… at least in Japan.

The new Sony Vaio Y VPCYA19FJ has a 1366 x 768 ixel 11.6 inch display, a 1.33GHz Intel Core i3-380UM processor, 2GB of RAM, a 320GB hard drive and runs Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit. It has integrated Intel graphics, WiFi, Bluetoth, and a battery which Sony says should be good for up to 6 hours.

While Sony hasn’t officially announced the price, Akihabara News reports the Sony Vaio VPCYA19FJ will run about 110,000 yen or roughly $1335 US.

  1. You have the new Macbook Air 11.6″, aluminium, 128Gb SSD really fast, and geforce 320 graphic card, thinner ang lighter, with OSX and W7 support for less price.

  2. $1335 is not real price, sony HK already started pre-order with 5980HKD is about $780 USD, reasonalble price than $1335.

  3. With all of the great 11.6″ units selling for around $600, is there really a place for an I3UM 11.6″ Sony costing $1,335?

    1. It won’t be $1,335 in the US. Minus a few hundred once you factor in the exchange rate and the minus a few hundred more for the fact that this has Office Home Office / Business ($300+) included so it’s easily under $1,000 as Hhu mentions. Still expensive though, yeah.

    1. Exactly what I was thinking.
Though If I had the money I would get a panasonic J9. Faster CPU, better battery life, and smaller.
