Chip maker Qualcomm has announced plans for an upcoming 28nm chip which the company says will offer 5 times the performance of one of the company’s original Snapdragon chips. At the same time, it will use 75% less energy than today’s chips, which could mean phones, tablets, and other mobile devices with better performance and better battery life.
The Qualcomm MSM8960 will feture a dual core processor, integrated 3G and 4G mobile broadband, GPS, Bluetooth, and FM radio. It also has an integrated graphics core that Qualcomm says offers 4 times the performance of today’s chips.
It looks like the new chips are due out some time next year.
