The Fusion Garage JooJoo tablet may not have been a wild success story in the consumer space, but the company is banking on the problem being software-related, not hardware. The JooJoo was envisioned as a web-0nly tablet running a light weight operating system that only served to launch a web browser without the ability to run native apps.

While Fusion Garage plans to launch new devices next year running Google’s Android operating system instead, the company is hoping to breathe new life into the original JooJoo tablet by partnering with Japanese reseller ASTEC.

As part of the deal, Fusion Garage will upgrade the JooJoo’s internal storage space to 16GB, and ASTEC will customize the operating system and OS. Because the JooJoo has an Intel Atom, x86-based processor, it can run Windows, Linux, or most other operating systems.

Fusion Garage will cease selling the 12.1 inch JooJoo tablet directly to consumers this week. If you have a hankering to get your hands on one, you’ll have to get your order in on the JooJoo website before 11:59 Pacific on Friday, November 19th.

The company has also confirmed that it will launch new devices in the first half of 2011, at least some of which will run Google Android. And they won’t bear the JooJoo name.
