It looks like Asus finally got around to giving its upcoming device for reading eBooks and taking notes a sensible name. Goodbye Eee Tablet, hello Eee Note.

The Eee Note EA800 has an 8 inch, 768 x 1024 pixel grayscale display. The Wacam touchscreen works with a stylus and can handle 256 levels of pressure which should provide for a much more precise writing and drawing experience than you would get from most low cost color tablets.

The device features 802.11b/g WiFi, 4GB of internal storage, and a microSD card slot for expansion. It also has a 2MB camera, a 1 Watt speaker, headphone jack, and a 3700mAh battery.

Asus promises up to 10 hours of run time with WiFi enabled, 13.5 hours with the wireless turned off, and 10 days of standby time.

The Eee note can support PDF and ePUB documents as well as TXT and Microosft Office files, JPG, BMP, GIF, and PNG images and MP3 audio.

There’s still no word on pricing or availability.

  1. Official product page at Asus;

    https://www.asus.com/product.aspx?P_ID=IrZFXz2AcdRvL7L6

    Priced under $293 in Taiwan according to Slashgear.

    NetbookNews picked one up and got ASUS to re-flash it with English firmware. Why isn’t anyone selling them like that on Ebay??

    I hope it will be released in the US soon! The sketch on the Asus official website looks awesome, I saw that Pocketbook have a similar device with a Wacom screen. I wonder which one will be released in the US first… if ever :((

  2. No doubt this is going to be the dark horse. Tablets are yay to me, but a digital note taking device/ebook reader sounds interesting. I guess the real question I have is the handwriting recognition abilities. If not now, it will later, and to me that’s the best thing ever. Putting those hand written notes into a format like MS Word etc seems to me to be the future. I has to be. At that point throw away pen and paper. Like the LP goes pencil and paper.

  3. This looks more interesting to me than the Adam.

    The website says it runs Linux. I wonder if it would be possible to run a web browser on it.

  4. When will I be able to purchase one of these?
    How much will it cost?
    I want to know now.

  5. Depending on price this might be a handy device for some people. I’m thinking it might be a good note-taker & business device.

    During a lot of my meetings I’m sketching up changes on a sheet of paper for prototypes or sketching on top of pictures or publicity materials. It would be nice to have something that would be good at that digitally…even at the expense of color.
