If the 4.3 inch Archos 43 tablet that just went on sale is a bit too small for you, it looks like you may be in luck. Archos has started taking orders for the Archos 70 Internet Tablet.

The Archos 70 features a 7 inch, 800 x 480 pixel capacitive multitouch display and runs Google Android 2.2. For $275 you can pick up a model with 8GB of solid state storage and a microSD card slot for expansion. A model with a 250GB hard drive will be available soon for $350.

The rest of the tablet’s specs are actually pretty much the same as those of the Archos 43. Both tablets have 1GHz ARM Cortex A8 processors, excellent support for audio and video codecs, including support for 720p HD video playback, 802.11b/g/n WiFi, Bluetooth 2.1, a G-sensor, and a front-facing VGA camera.

Archos says the tablet should get up to 10 hours of battery life while you’re surfing the web, 7 hours while you’re playing video, or 36 hours while you’re listening to music.

You can order the Archos 70 from the Archos Store. You can also check out my earlier article for more details and photos of the tablet, or check out the videos after the break for an overview of all five new Android tablets from Archos.

thanks Eric!

  1. I’ve been looking for the answer to this for awhile now. Is there a difference between the Archos 7 IT (Android) and this Archos 70? I’m seeing the Archos 7 Android at just under $200 everywhere and now seeing the 70 for over 250 confuses the hell outta me.

    1. there is an archos 7 home tablet for $200 which sucks because the processor is only 600 mhz but this one has the faster processor . I suggest you wait for this one instead and get the 250gb version which allows tons of storage.

    2. I bought both Archos 70 tablets (Internet for me and Home for my daughter) and returned the Home Tablet. My daughter only wanted a reader and i thought the HT would be a reader plus much more. It was very limited in its use and didnt even make a decent reader because it only came with Droid 1.5 and was not upgradable. all but one reader apps (nook, kindle, etc.) require a later version of droid. Alidiko reaader app downloaded but doesnt display correctly so you cant read the book. Actually, most apps of any type require a later version. The IT Came with droid 2.1. and was upgradable to 2.2. With 2.2 you can download Adobe flashplayer free. With these two together the IT and its use is unlimited. For the extra $100 dont waste your time and frustration. I am buying her the IT now.

    1. I doubt it. The 250GB version is physically larger (thicker) so I think it’s safe to assume they aren’t using an SSD for the 8GB. It’s probably standard Flash RAM soldered in.. That said, it does support SDHC and USB, so you can at least have lots of stuff on external memory.

  2. It’s capacitive multi-touch. I’d like the GPS and rear camera as well for augmented reality …. that looks like a future gen9 feature set.

  3. I’d jump right on it, if it had Marketplace, multi-touch, rear camera. and GPS.

    1. multi touch is avail on the 70 and 101, Marketplace can be put on any of these device and I already have the software to do so when I order mine. rear cam will depends on model and the GPS well that was left out but I bet a GPS dongle might work.

      1. Since there was some concern about malware, here’s a link showing some precautions everyone can take…

        https://lifehacker.com/5679471/how-can-i-tell-if-an-android-app-is-malware

For those wanting GPS, you could always get a Bluetooth GPS unit and keep it in your pocket while using this tablet.

USB on this model is limited to 100ma, only the 101 supports 500ma, but if you use a split USB cable to add an external USB power pack you can connect and use just about any USB device that Android will recognize…

        1. Wow, anti-malware software for Android. Are we going to start seeing I’m Android and I’m iOS commercials from Apple now.

          1. You never know, btw… If you’re using a iOS device, they have anti-malware apps too.

  4. I just ordered one (the 70) from the Archos online store. Apparently, they are giving a discount (doesn’t show up until you confirm order though) of $27.50, so total price is $247.49 + $9 shipping (if you choose UPS ground like I did).

    Eric

      1. I dunno why there was a discount. I’ve never ordered anything from Archos before. Maybe for people who are ordering quickly? First time? Random?

    1. Hi, we were just on the site, and the price and order buttons are grayed out. Are they still accepting orders?
