Samsung UK has announced that the Galaxy Tab 7 inch Android tablet will be available in the UK starting on November 1st. The company says all major wireless carriers in the country will offer the tablet, although final pricing hasn’t been made available yet.

Amazon UK has a pre-order page for the Samsung Galaxy Tab with a price of £599.99, or about $950 US. But that’s the price for an unsubsidized tablet. It will likely be much cheaper (up front, at least) for customers who commit to a long term service contract with a UK telecom.

The Galaxy Tab has a 7 inch, 1024 x 600 pixel capacitive touchscreen display, a 1GHz Samsung Hummingbird processor, and runs Google Android 2.2. It has Bluetooth, WiFi, 3G, and GPS support as well as USB and HDMI ports.

All four major US wireless carriers have also committed to offering the tablet, but it’s not yet clear when it will be available in the US.

  1. If they are that expensive in the USA they will cutt off alot of potential consumers.. one could get 2 ipads for that price..

  2. Finally, 1080p, high profile, level 4.0 (or more) support in an ARM based device. The Galaxy phones and tablets use the PowerVR SGX 540 which can decode 1080p H.264 videos.

To make it more clear, the Intel Atom Z5XX series are paired with the PowerVR SGX 535 chip and can decode 1080p content. I have been able to play 720p, high profile, level 5.1 H.264 videos at 20 Mbps on a Z520 based netbook. I have also played a 1080p, high profile, level 4.1 H.264 video at 10 Mbps smoothly also. There are people who say they’ve played direct 1080p Blu-ray rips.

The PowerVR SGX 540 used in the Samsung devices should be even more capable than a PowerVR SGX 535 based device.
