Clearwire has been testing its new 4G network in three of the countries largest and most tech-savvy cities for a few months, and now the company has announced the official launch dates for WiMAX service in New York, Los Angeles, and San Francisco.
New York will get WiMAX coverage first, on November 1st, with LA and San Francisco following in December.
Clear already provides WiMAX coverage in a number of cities around the country including Philadelphia, Las Vegas, and Houston.
Clearwire is launching its service in conjunction with Sprint, Time Warner, and Comcast. Basically all of those companies will be using the same 4G towers and other infrastructure, so New York customers will be able to sign up for WiMAX through Time Warner, Sprint, or Clear, while San francisco customers will be able to sign up through Comcast instead of Time Warner. In Los Angeles, it’s just Clear or Sprint.
